The process
Architecture and interior design is always personal. We want you to enjoy the process as well as the results, so we take care of the milestones along the way, while keeping you informed and up to date.
Our studio specialises on working with historic buildings and properties in conservation areas. We follow the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Plan of Work:
1. Preparation and briefing - we start with a chat
To establish an accurate brief for your project, we start by capturing as much information as we can. We ask you a lot of questions, carry out detailed research of your neighbourhood and a measured survey of your property.
2. Concept design - creativity and fun
We start by developing a few initial design options and a first cost estimate, so we can explore all the creative and practical possibilities together.
3. Planning - getting into the detail
Once we’ve established a design we’re all excited about, we prepare and submit plans and documents to your local authority for planning approval. With listed buildings this process also includes a more extensive Listed Buildings Consent application.
4. Technical plans
We prepare detailed technical plans for your contractor, either during the planning application process or once approval is through. These are prepared in collaboration with our trusted structural and mechanical engineers and a building control inspector.
4.1. Technical - interior design
We integrate your interior design vision into your technical plans at this point, to make sure architecture and interior design work seamlessly together. After detailing each space, we help you source fixtures, fittings, joinery and lighting.
4.2. Technical - evaluating cost estimates and choosing the right contractor
Choosing the right contractor is one of the most important decisions you need to make. We will help you choose the right contractor for your project, based not only on cost, but also quality, attention to detail and communication skills.
5. Construction - where the magic happens!
We love this part of every project - when ideas become reality! It is going to be messy, dusty, noisy and possibly scary, but we are right by your side to manage the communication between you, the contractor, other consultants, and your neighbours. We keep everything on track and running smoothly. In other words, we keep the stress away from you.
6. Hand over
When all the construction work is finished and all the decoration and finishing touches are in place, your home is yours again! We give you an ‘owner’s manual’ with everything you need to know to keep your home running smoothly and efficiently.
And while you get comfortable, we’re still on hand for a few months then, when you’re happy, we issue a ‘final certificate’ and formally hand your home over to you, to begin a new chapter.
What’s next?
The first step is a conversation about your project.
We can begin with a design enquiry, our free 45-minute online consultation to find out how we can help you and if we are a good fit.
If everything aligns, I'll prepare a custom quote to give you confidence in our potential collaboration before we move forward.
